THE 2023-24 SEASON:
The Chiefs are back-to-back champs! The one and only Patrick Mahomes leads K.C. on an overtime Super Bowl winning touchdown drive to defeat the San Francisco 49'ers 25 to 22. It is the Chief's third Lombardi trophy in six years, the fourth in franchise history and first for international pop-star Taylor Swift.
The 2024 playoff teams:
AFC
1. Baltimore Ravens (13-4) Lamar Jackson is named league MVP for the second time in his young career, but the Ravens suffer another heart breaking playoff loss at home in the AFC Championship.
2. Buffalo Bills (11-5) Josh Allen has Buffalo contending yet again, but the Bills stumble at home to the Chiefs 24-27 in the Divisional Round.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (11-4) After a sleepy regular season (by their standards), the Chiefs wake up in the playoffs beating the top two teams in the conference on the road, in back-to-back weeks. A 25-22 overtime victory over the 49'ers in Super Bowl LVIII keeps the dynasty rolling.
4. Houston Texans (10-7) A truly impressive campaign by rookie of the year C.J. Stroud has the Texans winning the AFC South, and a home playoff game against Cleveland. The future looks bright in Houston.
5. Cleveland Browns (11-6) After devastating season-ending injuries to Nick Chubb and DeShaun Watson, the Browns coax Joe Flacco out of retirement to lead the team. Flacco and Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett keep the Browns in contention.
6. Miami Dolphins (11-6) The Greatest Show on Turf 2.0 freezes in Kansas City in the Wild Card Round. Regardless, the Fins are one of the funnest watches in the league with the potential to score video game like points in any given week.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) Coach Mike Tomlin, still without a losing season in his 17 year career, wills his team to the playoffs despite a negative net-point differential and three different starting QBs.
NFC
1. San Francisco 49'ers (12-5) Arguably the most complete team in the league, the NFC champs fall victim to the familiar late-game heroics of one Patrick Mahomes in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII.
2. Dallas Cowboys (12-5) Dak Prescott is an MVP finalist, but the Cowboys suffer a shocking 32-48 home defeat in the Wild Card round at the hands of the upstart Packers.
3. Detroit Lions (12-5) The roar has officially been restored! The Lions win the NFC North for the first time in three decades and advance all the way to the Conference Championship where they give the 49'ers all they can handle.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-8) Baker Mayfield and the Bucs silence the critics by winning the the NFC South and obliterating the Eagles 32-9 in the Wild Card round.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (11-6) After soaring to a 10-1 record, the Eagles nose-dive into the post season losing 5 of their last 6 games.
6. Los Angeles Rams (10-7) A record-breaking rookie season by receiver Puka Nacua and the steady, veteran leadership of Matt Stafford has the Rams back in the playoffs. Aaron Donald, one of the greatest defensive players of all time, retires after the season.
7. Green Bay Packers (9-8) After a sluggish start, Jordan Love and a bevy of talented "no-name" receivers catch fire and lead the Packers to a stunning 48-32 road upset over the Cowboys in the playoffs. The youngest team in the NFL shows a lot of upside.
