THE 1979 SEASON:
The Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) win their fourth Super Bowl title of the decade with a 31 to 19 win over the surprising Los Angeles Rams (9-7). The cinderalla Rams stun the world by leading 19 to 17 in the fourth quarter, but the Steelers score 14 un-answered points to seal the victory. Earl Campbell of the Houston Oilers punishes the league with 1697 rushing yards and is named the NFL's Most Valuable Player. San Diego's gunslinger Dan Fouts tops all QB's with 4082 yards passing, while Seattle's Steve Largent leads the league in receiving yardage with 1237. Tampa Bay's game-wrecker Lee Roy Selmon wins Defensive Player of the year honors. The league is highly competitive in '79, six teams with records of 9-7 or better are left out of the playoffs.

AFC
Steelers (12-4) The team of the decade hoists their fourth Lombardi Trophy in six years with twelve future hall-of-famers.
Chargers (12-4) The "Air Coryell" passing attack is in full-effect. Fouts, Joiner and Jefferson dominate opposing secondaries.
Dolphins (10-6) Shula leads his team to another division title. Csonka's last season is one of his best at age 33.
Oilers (11-5) Houston gives the Steelers all they can handle in the AFC Championship. MVP Earl Campbell is an absolute beast.
Broncos (10-6) Denver's Orange Crush defense wills the team to the playoffs.
NFC
Cowboys (11-5) The great Roger Staubach leads Dallas to another division title. His final season is one of his best.
Buccaneers (10-6) Once the laughing stock of the league, Tampa Bay now has one of the NFL's top defenses.
Rams (9-7) The underdog Rams advance to the Super Bowl with a back-up QB and go to toe-to-toe with the mighty Steelers.
Eagles (11-5) Coach Dick Vermeil has his team in contention. No real weaknesses on this balanced squad.
Chicago (10-6) Walter Payton serves up one of his sweetest seasons with 1610 yds and is the best all-around back in the NFL.
