Manchester City and Liverpool separate from the pack, and embark on one of the most tightly contested title battles in Premier League history. The two clubs exchange leads 32 times over the season and jointly amass a total of 195 points, the highest combined total in English top flight history. In the end, Man City claims its fourth Premier League title on the final day of competition with a 4–1 win over Liverpool finishing on 98 points after a run of 14 wins. The loss is Liverpool's one and only defeat of the season. Liverpool's 97 points is the highest total ever for a second-place finisher and the third most in league history overall. 

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur claim the other two Champions League berths, finishing in third and fourth place respectively. Wolverhampton, Fulham and Cardiff join the season as the promoted clubs, but only Wolverhamption survives relagation with a solid seventh place finish. Huddersfield is the other relegated club. 

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal along with Sadio Mane' and Mohamed Salah both of Liverpool lead the league with 22 goals each. Chelsea's Eden Hazard tops the league with 15 assists, while Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Ramses Becker leads the pack with 21 clean sheets. Liverpool's great defender Virgil van Dijk grabs Player of the Season honors.
