It is the third season of the ABA. The league is highly competitive with 8 of the 11 teams at .500 or better. The Indiana Pacers (59-25) capture their first ABA titlle with a 4-2 finals series victory over the Los Angeles Stars (43-41). Forward Roger Brown is named playoffs MVP for his outstanding post-season performance for the Pacers. Rookie Spencer Haywood wins league MVP honors, leading the ABA in scoring (30.0 ppg) and rebounding (19.5 rpg) for the Denver Rockets (51-33). Larry Brown of the Washington Capitols (44-40) leads the league with 7.1 assists per game. Other stars of the ABA include: Rick Barry (Washington Capitols), Mel Daniels (Indiana Pacers), Bob Verga (Carolina Cougars), Red Robbins (New Orleans Buccaneers), Louie Dampier (Kentucky Colonels), Willie Wise (Los Angeles Stars) and more.
