THE 1992 SEASON:
It is the dawn of a dynasty in Big D as the Cowboys rout the Buffalo Bills 52-17 in Super Bowl XXVII. The Bills win their third straight AFC Championship, but also fall short of capturing the Lombardi trophy for a third consecutive season. It is Brett Favre's first season as a starter in Green Bay. The exuberant gunslinger and first year coach Mike Holmgren instantly make the Packers (9-7) relevant again for the first time in years. League MVP Steve Young leads San Francisco to an NFL best 14-2 record, but the Niners fall at home to the Cowboys 20-30 in the NFC Championship.
The other playoff teams:
AFC
Steelers (11-5) Coach of the Year Bill Cowher has Pittsburgh on the rise; Miami (11-5) Dan Marino always makes the Dolphins a contender; San Diego (11-5) Junior Seau leads one of the best defenses in the league; Houston (10-6) Warren Moon operates the Run & Shoot to perfection, but the Oilers blow a huge lead to the Bills in the Wild Card; Kansas City (10-6) Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith punish quarterbacks with 29 combined sacks.
NFC
Saints (12-4) Can't call em' the "Aints" anymore. All four linebackers go to the Pro Bowl; Vikings (11-5) First year coach Dennis Green leads Minnesota to a division title; Eagles (11-5) Comeback Player of the Year QB Randcall Cunningham can soar; Redskins (9-7) The Skins sneak into the playoffs and stun the Vikings at the Metrodome.
